New Magistrate Judge Appointed
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina is pleased to announce that Kimberly A. Swank was appointed by the Court on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, to serve as Part-Time United States Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina in Greenville. Judge Swank received her Bachelor of Arts degree from East Carolina University and is a 1991 cum laude graduate of Campbell University School of Law. She practiced law from 1991 until her appointment as death penalty law clerk for the Eastern District of North Carolina in 2004. Judge Swank later became a career law clerk to Senior United States District Judge Malcolm J. Howard in 2007 and served in that position until her recent appointment as United States Magistrate Judge.
The Judicial Conference of the United States approved fees for filing a civil action, suit, or proceeding in a District Court
The Judicial Conference of the United States approved a $50.00 general administrative fee for filing a civil action, suit, or proceeding in a district court. Effective May 1, 2013, the administrative fee is in addition to the $350.00 filing fee and applies to all civil cases except where the court has allowed a person to proceed in forma pauperis under 28 U.S.C. § 1915.
